Building the future at Oakleaf Junior High
Scorpio delivered a new classroom building at Oakleaf Junior High School in Oakleaf Plantation, Florida, expanding the school’s capacity and eliminating 19 aging portable classrooms. Designed by Paul Stressing Associates, the 58,458-square-foot, two-story facility provided 26 standard classrooms, 4 ESE classrooms, 5 science labs, a skills development room, and an art lab. Each space was designed with teacher planning areas, dedicated storage, single restrooms, and pass-through vestibules.
The structure featured masonry walls, steel bar joists, membrane roofing, and an EFIS exterior with impact mesh and color accents. A central elevator and three stair towers supported vertical circulation.
Interior finishes emphasized durability and functionality, with acoustical ceilings and LED lighting throughout, full-height ceramic tile in group restrooms, and a mix of carpet and VCT flooring. Hard ceilings with accent paint provided visual cues and wayfinding in corridors. The completed facility enhanced the campus and supported future growth in the Clay County School District.
