University of Florida Human Resource Services Building Renovation

  • Project Owner: University of Florida
  • Location: Gainesville FL
  • Completion Date: August 2019
  • Partners: STUDIO MJG, LLC

The Renovation of the Human Resource Services Building 3381 along University Avenue modernized the interior and transformed the external façade of this familiar Gainesville landmark.

Interior renovations consisted of the demolition of the existing Entry, Lobby, offices and administration areas, and includes relocating the entry and expanding the lobby with a new curtain wall system and aluminum canopy structure. The newly available space was used to create a new Lobby, Reception Desk, Quite Meeting Room, Conference Room, and Background Check Area. The renovations take advantage of the existing modernist stair and integrated this design element as a feature of the new lobby. The existing first-floor restrooms and main corridors were updated with new finishes. Additional cosmetic improvements were made throughout. Ultimately, Scorpio updated and/or renovated nearly every area of this 30,000 square foot building, inclusive of 36 complete individual office renovations.

This façade renovation added new storefront openings to each side of the building. In addition to new openings, each elevation received a new exterior finish. The building was “waterproofed” using a direct applied stucco finishes system with an elastomeric finish.

These renovations transform the existing rigid, brocaded brick and concrete structure that defined the HR building into a welcoming, bright, contemporary structure that creates a connection with the Innovation District and downtown Gainesville allowing for growth and future possibilities with the University of Florida.
