Building the future at Oakleaf Junior High
Scorpio is managing the construction of a new classroom building at Oakleaf Junior High School in Oakleaf Plantation, Florida, a project that will expand the school’s capacity and eliminate 19 aging portable classrooms. Designed by Paul Stressing Associates, the 58,458 square foot, two-story facility is being built in phases, beginning with the removal of portables, utility relocation, and building pad preparation.
The addition includes 26 standard classrooms, 4 ESE classrooms, 5 science labs, a skills development room, and an art lab. Each space is designed with teacher planning areas, dedicated storage, single restrooms, and pass-through vestibules. The structure features masonry walls, steel bar joists, membrane roofing, and an EFIS exterior with impact mesh and color accents. A central elevator and three stair towers support vertical circulation.
Interior finishes emphasize durability and functionality, with acoustical ceilings and LED lighting throughout, full-height ceramic tile in group restrooms, and a mix of carpet and VCT flooring. Hard ceilings with accent paint provide visual cues and wayfinding in corridors. Once complete, the new facility will enhance the campus and support continued growth in the Clay County School District.
