A New Den for the South Sumter Wolves
This South Sumter Middle School Classroom Building project includes new construction of a 10,400 sf seven (7) classroom building, a new student drop-off lane, and an extension of the bus drop-off lane. The building is a single-story CMU structure with a stucco exterior, metal trusses and a shingle roof. An overhang encircles the building to provide shelter.
The interior space consists of a dedicated medical classroom, agricultural classroom, and five (5) standard classrooms. Each is equipped with cabinets, LVT flooring, marker and tack boards, and painted masonry walls. An obscuring film on the windows protects the privacy of the students. A central corridor provides staff storage, restrooms, and a janitor’s closet. Four (4) student restrooms accessed via the overhang are included. Each classroom except the medical one has a sink. Packaged direct expansion heat pump HVAC units condition the spaces. Fire protection, fire alarm, and intercom systems are included throughout.
To make space for the new building, an existing CMU building, three (3) portables, and a walkway canopy were demolished. Five (5) portables were relocated. A bus drop-off lane extension adjacent to the new classroom building is included. The new student drop-off lane starts at NW 7th St, wraps around the track, and ties into the existing student drop-off lane off CR 733. The athletic track configuration and stormwater retention ponds were adjusted to accommodate the new drop-off lane. New fencing, gates, walkway canopies, and sod are included.
