Lincoln Park Education Center

The Lincoln Park Education Center is a renovation and expansion project that utilized the existing unoccupied Clermont Elementary School campus.

Making a Home for Sorority Life

Each Scorpio project is unique. Each project delivers something special and of value to its owner. But when a project is somebody’s home, or in this case a lot of “somebodies” home, it takes on a different feel. In this case, it is a sorority house; the very first for a newer sorority on campus. Scorpio has been honored to be a part of creating this legacy and building the first home for Gamma Phi Beta. As it ends, we are feeling slightly nostalgic and even a little paternal as we hand over the keys.

A New Beginning

Leaving home for college is a unique and special experience. Most are entering school in a new city faced with the daunting task of making new friends. Many spend the first few months feeling homesick and learning how to do everything on their own. And this is where we have come to learn sororities can make all the difference. Choosing to go through recruitment not only provides the chance to meet hundreds of new friends, but it also offers a home away from home and it can enhance the college experience.

Sororities are filled with leaders, sisters and compassionate individuals who push each other to do better. When there are questions, someone is always ready with an answer. Looking for advice? Curious about an organization? Just need a pep talk?  There is now a sisterhood willing to listen and share. Some look at a sorority house and see a beautiful structure expertly styled and finely decorated, but its members see a safe space, a place to eat and study, and a place to go when they need to feel at home.

For those who choose to live in the house, they are now one of the many that make that house feel like a home. Bedrooms are adorned with photographs of budding friendships and sisterhood, memories of trips and socials found next to silly pranks and messages of encouragement. Visitors (out of house girls) will most certainly stop by to jump on a bed or two before chapter or dinner. And while each house is different from the next, it is always a reflection of these young women who are actively participating on campus and generously contributing to the community.

Coming Home

So as the building of Gamma Phi Beta comes to a close, the time for it to become a home begins. This project has been a labor of love for all of us at Scorpio and our many partners in the field. As we hand over the keys to the House Director and its new residents, we know over the years they will transform, not only themselves but this house we built into a home. A home that will shelter, protect, and provide a space to gather for generations of Gamma Phi Beta sisters to come.

Scorpio is truly honored to have been a part of this special project. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity. Now we are incredibly excited to say, “Welcome home sisters of Gamma Phi Beta. Welcome home!”
