South Wood's New Eagle's Nest
A new two-story classroom building with 196 student stations was the main focus of this expansion. Supporting the new building were sitework improvements and a new central energy plant. The existing elementary school remained fully functional during demolition and construction. The classroom building was constructed of concrete tilt-wall with a structural steel frame. The interior space was comprised of 10 new classrooms (6 with movable partitions that allowed them to double in size), 2 extended learning rooms, and 2 large teacher planning rooms. Sitework included new stormwater control drains and basins, improvements to the existing driveways, and new sidewalks with canopies, along with 28 additional parking spaces. The new central energy plant included an 80-ton air-cooled package chiller with integrated pumps and a 1,300 gpm air separator. New Building Automation Systems were also commissioned and connected to the campus.
